Like Elfego by God Baca, he ignored the bloody fusillade of bullets and aimed at the madman. He fired three shots in rapid succession. I could see Jake’s body twitch as each one found its mark. The outlaw stood straight up and looked around, a slightly baffled expression on his face. He looked as if he wanted to say something but no words came out of his mouth. With his pistol pointing toward the sky, he pulled the trigger repeatedly. After two more shots, the hammer fell on empty chambers.
